geneticXchange releases the Oracle edition of the K1 Data Integration Middleware Platform

Expanded Access to More than 50 Life Science Data Sources Speeds the Drug Discovery Process for Leading Biotechs

Menlo Park, CA - February 5, 2002 - geneticXchange, the leading provider of data integration software, today announced the release of a new "Oracle Edition" of its K1 Data Integration Middleware Platform.

The K1 System is a complete biological data acquisition and integration platform, helping to accelerate new drug discovery. The new Oracle edition now gives Oracle users a direct connection to over 50 life science data sources and algorithms from 'within' the Oracle environment. From a SQLPLUS prompt, the programmers can see the data sources represented in the Oracle data dictionary tables and query data with standard Oracle SQL.

The K1 system, which is a virtual database server, sits on top of the Oracle database engine and uses the familiar SQL interface to support real-time queries from any data domain. APIs, which are available in Java, Perl, ODBC, JDBC & C++, enable query and retrieval, with the results coming back in the requested form. The K1 System complements, extends and enhances the current infrastructure of any biotech company to help accelerate the drug discovery process and eliminates the need for manual, hand-coded integration alternatives.

"geneticXchange is becoming a clear leader in helping the world's biotechs solve their complex data integration problems using proven technologies andstandards," said Jeff Edwards, President & COO of geneticXchange. Mark Haselup, CTO of geneticXchange added, "Oracle Transparent Gateways gave access to data stored in a non-Oracle system from within Oracle environment - The K1 System now extends that reach to life science data sources."

"Using geneticXchange's new Oracle edition K1 solution, biotechs will now be able to leverage their existing IT infrastructure for life science data," said Brian Donnelly, Chairman & CEO of geneticXchange.
