About the discoveryBuilder

Getting Started
To assist new users in getting started with discoveryBuilder, the “Getting Started” screen is a great place to begin. Here, users (and groups of users) can find reports commonly used for a variety of research activities. These reports come complete with suggested parameters, so building reports is easy. In fact, all a new user needs to do is press “GO” and a report will be displayed. The “Getting Started” display can also be used to save personal queries within discoveryBuilder, automating research functions for greater speed and flexibility for data analysis.

Query Universe
The Query Universe holds metadata about how each database can be queried and thus provides the user with a simple path to discovery.

Each installation of the discoveryBuilder can be customized to create a user-definable Query Universe that shows similar specialized databases under one grouping. For example all protein based databases can be grouped together - for ease of navigation.

Wrapper Library
The Wrapper Library shows the user the available set of wrappers allowing exploration to identify which data source contains the correct information for them. The discoveryHub comes complete with an expandable set of wrappers. The discoveryBuilder drives from this expandable metadata - allowing users to access new datasources without any client maintenance.

Active Output
The output from any of the query mechanisms is shown in multiple formats and is active allowing the user to drill-down the data hierarchy and click on links to view further information.

Creating Views and Workflows
Using the standard wrapper datasources the user can quickly build workflows and views across multiple heterogenous data sets.

Using the discoveryBuilder to create a workflow view across two disparate data sources. This example shows discoveryBuilder being used to create a workflow view across two disparate data sources. The user can simply drag and drop a join between a protein database attribute onto a key field for a pathway database. The result is a user defined view that implements a complex workflow underneath

Populating Target Databases
To make it easier for users or administrators to populate target database caches - ie privately inside the intranet, the discoveryBuilder supports population of all the major relational database technologies; and, additionally on some platforms the support for indexable data files. Using the discoveryBuilder to drive the process is as simple as defining a query.

Customization
All parts of the discoveryBuilder are customizable and each user or group of users can be set-up with their own analysis views - the product is currently designed to support users and groups of users within a non-public environment.
