Genetic Disorders

A genetic disorder is a disease caused by abnormalities in DNA sequence or chromosome structure. These abnormalities may involve a mutation in a single gene, multiple genes, or entire chromosomes. Genetic variation is a natural part of human biology. However, certain mutations can disrupt normal protein function and lead to disease. According to Strachan & Read, genetic disorders arise when mutations alter gene expression or protein structure in ways that impair biological processes.
